choosing the best organic skin care products for your skin.

We are constantly bombarded with ads for one type of environmentally
friendly product after another, so there's no doubt that going green is on in
the minds of many consumers. Many manufacturers are jumping on the
'green' bandwagon and that can make it very difficult to know which
organic skin care product is truly organic.

There is very little regulation when it comes to labeling of cosmetics.
Food, alcohol, even household cleaners have more labeling regulations
than the products you put on your skin like lotions, in your hair such as
shampoos, conditioners and even in your mouth, like toothpaste and
mouthwash.

So what do you do as a consumer who wants to drastically cut back on
the potentially cancer causing chemicals in the cosmetic and personal
care products you buy?

Today we are going to go over some helpful tips on what to look out for
when purchasing your health and beauty products. While I can't cover
every product on the market in this issue I will do my best to give you
enough information to get started.

The first thing you need to be on the lookout for is any product that has an
ingredient that says 'derived from'. This means that the original, natural
ingredient has been chemically modified, possibly to the point of now
being toxic. Many companies find it cheaper to substitute natural products
with manmade alternatives, but they still want to create the illusion that
their product is all natural, or organic.

Another thing to be on the lookout for, and one of the favorite tricks of
cosmetic manufacturers, is the term 'infusion'. This implies that a
wonderful, healthy infusion of a certain organic ingredient has occurred.
The reality is that the ingredient has been so diluted as to be virtually non-
existent in the product.

It would be like me taking a glass of ice water, squirting some lemon juice
in it and packaging it in a wrapper that says 'infused with lemon'. While it
might be technically true there is lemon in the product, it's in such a small
amount it's inconsequential.

Since the cosmetic industry has a rather loose definition of 'organic' it is
difficult, but not impossible to find products that truly are organic.

When most people think of organic products they think of things from
nature, without being processed and combined with man made
chemicals. There are some manufacturers out there that adhere to this
code.

If you really want to make sure the product you are buying is totally
organic you can look for labels from a third party.  There are many
reputable certified  organizations, which have followed the manufacturing
process of the product, from the way the plant was grown, all the way
through to the way it is being packaged stored and shipped.

While many of the greedy cosmetic manufactures, who are trying to cash
in on the 'organic craze', make it hard for a consumer to know which
products truly are organic and which are not, it's important to remember
that there are many fine organic skin care product available. It might take
a little looking, but it is well worth the hunt.

Home remedies for irritating dry skin.

When it comes to treating dry skin there are a wide variety of different
options available and finding the right treatment for your skin type is
extremely important. As with any process finding the right regimen for
your dry skin may take some time and patience, but once you do it can
help restore your skins natural balance which will make your skin look
more radiant and youthful.

Let's go over a few home treatments you can try to help relieve your
irritating, dry skin:

- Avocado mash

Mash up half an avocado, mix it with a couple of drops of fresh
lime juice and spread the paste on your skin. Be sure to thoroughly
cleanse your face before applying the paste. Allow it to remain on your
skin for between 15 minutes and 20 minutes, then rinse it thoroughly,
while alternating warm and cold water. This is a great way to add
moisture to the skin and achieve a healthy glow.

- Cleanse with mineral water

If you suffer from dry flaky skin, especially on your face, consider using
mineral water when you cleanse. Tap water is often laden with chemicals
that strip the natural oils and nutrients from your skin. Mineral water adds
healthy minerals to your skin and leaves it feeling soft and well
moisturized.

- Peanut paste

-  Blend three or four tablespoons of raw peanuts, a little bit of milk and a
teaspoon of raw honey into a smooth paste. A food processor works best
for this. Apply the paste to your face and any other place where your skin
is dry and allow it to completely dry, then wash it off with cold water. The
natural oils and antioxidants in peanuts are excellent for relieving dry skin.
*Warning - Do not use this remedy if you have a peanut allergy*

- Extract

Before you go in for a bath, try adding between 5 drops and 6 drops
worth of lavender oil or oat extract to your bath water. When your skin
soaks up the water and becomes soft, it will also soak up the extracts or
oils in order to improve upon your dry skin.

- Milk bath

Take a milk bath once a month. This is an age old home remedy for
dealing with dry skin that is well worth trying. A milk bath is both soothing
and softening for the skin. Don't worry; you don't have to invest in 20
gallons of help to make this happen. Powdered milk will do the trick.
Simply do a search online and you will find countless recipes for
homemade milk baths.

- Don't forget the fruits and veggies

As we have discussed before one of the best ways to have soft silky skin
is by including more fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. Fruits
and vegetables because they are rich in Vitamin B and Vitamin A, and
both of these vitamins are especially helpful in keeping your skin feeling
young, healthy and moisturized.

You can experiment with some of these, look for others (online) and don't
be afraid to combine different remedies so that you can create a dry skin
care regimen that works best for you.

some great ways to cover dark under eye circles and reduce puffiness. ...

As we age puffy eyes and dark circles can become a reoccurring
problem that is not only irritating it's hard to cover up. They can also make
us feel less than beautiful. But never fear, there are natural treatments and
over the counter products that can help reduce puffy eyes and dark
circles when used properly. The trick is finding the one that works best for
your situation.

As we have discussed before a healthy inside leads to a healthy outside,
so one of the first things you can do is reduce your consumption of
salt. Also add Vitamins A, C, and E to your diet. Make sure you are
getting enough sleep as well.

There are also popular home remedies that can work to remove the
puffiness and darkness. These include applying is to apply (Green) tea
bags, fresh cut cucumbers, cold spoons or (this may sound odd) a
hemorrhoid cream like Preparation H.

These can all work very well for short-term relief. Just keep in mind when
using the hemorrhoid cream be sure not to use it every day and avoid
getting it in your eyes because it can be harmful
When locating products for puffy eyes, look for ingredients with horse
chestnut that promotes micro-circulation. Aloe that soothes and hydrates.
Ivy to decongest and eliminate excess water. Caffeine to decrease the
swelling. Green or white tea to soothe the redness and inflammation.
Cucumber to reduce the inflammation. Licorice to reduce the puffiness
and soothes the irritation.

When you're seeking a longer fix there are injectable wrinkle fillers such
as Juvederm and Restylane, but these should only be administered by
licensed professionals and only when you've exhausted other less
invasive treatments. The filler is injected around the puffy area to remove
the indentation as the result of the puffiness.

Botox is also commonly used to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. They
all have the same effect of creating a younger appearance to the eyes

These methods are often very costly and usually only last a few months
before the procedure needs to be repeated.

Some people have the daily morning darkness referred to as “raccoon
eyes” that is near the underside of their eyes making the person appear
tired, older, and drug out. The fact some people have it naturally even with
getting the right amounts of sleep lead them to seek alternative products
to remove the dark circles.

Look for products with Vitamin K to stimulate the blood flow and repair
the broken capillary walls near the eyes. Vitamin A, C, and E to reduce
the free radicals and to increase the antioxidant protectors. Peptide
technology to promote collagen synthesis to firm the eye tissue.

Hesperidin to strengthen the capillaries to reduce the leaking and reduce
blood pooling as well as improving the micro-circulation in the eye region.
Konica acid to lighten the skin areas from discoloration. Eyebright, pearls
and light diffuser to visually filter light and to brighten and illuminate the
eye regions.

To camouflage the darkness use a peach or salmon colored concealer.
For the puffiness use nylon concealer brush to add a thin layer of a
product in the creases below the puffy area. After you add a concealer a
few shades darker than your foundation. Apply the foundation before the
concealer.

When it comes to treating dark circles and puffy under eyes the process
is often time-consuming and requires a lot of trial and error before finding
the regimen that works best for you.

simple and effective ways to help stop thinning hair.

Many people consider hair loss as an exclusively a male problem, but the
truth is that hair loss can affect men, women and even children. There are
many factors that can lead to hair loss. Heredity is often a main
contributor, but a poor diet, health problems and other factors can also
lead to thinning hair.

If you are troubled with thinning hair don't despair there are several things
you can do to slow down, stop and even reverse the process altogether.

Let's go over a few easy things you can do right away that may help
prevent further hair loss and even help you regrow some of the hair you've
already lost:

- So much attention is paid to the hair itself that the scalp and then goes
unnoticed and uncared for. That is a mistake! Think of a garden, you'll
never have healthy plants if you don't have quality ground for your plants to
grow with.  Your scalp is like the 'soil' for your hair, it needs to be healthy
in order to produce a healthy 'crop' of hair.  Make sure when you
shampoo your hair, which you should do often to prevent  a buildup of dirt
and oils and residue from hair care products, that you take some time to
do a gentle scalp massage.

- Take it easy on the harmful things you do to your hair and be careful
which products you use.  When looking for shampoos and conditioners
you should consider all natural products.  Many shampoos still have
sulfates in them. These are very harsh chemicals and they were put in
shampoo to create foam, but the long term effect on your hair, and your
scalp as a whole, can be very serious.

- Go easy on perms, hair coloring and heated styling devices, including
hairdryers.  Instead try to let your hair air dry as much as possible and if
you do want to color your hair wait at least 6 weeks between each
treatment.

-  Try to avoid hair styles that can break your hair.  Things like pony tails
and cornrows are horrible for your hair since they will tear, rip and stretch
the hair which can cause permanent damage.  Try to wear these hair
styles sparingly.

-  Make sure to keep your hair healthy by keeping your body healthy. Just
like with your skin a healthy diet is essential to growing a beautiful, full
head of hair. Make sure you get the proper vitamins and minerals. Also
drink plenty of water and get enough sleep.  We often forget that what
happens on the outside of our bodies, such as hair loss, is sometimes a
direct result of what's going on inside of our bodies.

-  You can amp up your diet by taking supplements. Calcium, in particular,
has been shown to help strengthen the hair roots and hair follicles at
the scalp which can lead to more and thicker growth.

By following some of these simple steps you can help ensure that you'll
keep a full head of healthy, beautiful hair for years to come.

We've learned a lot about our bodies in the last several decades
especially when it comes to anti-aging.  We now know that some signs of
aging are not inevitable. We do have some control and just making a few
simple changes to your daily routine you can be healthy on the inside and
more beautiful on the outside.

Is your skin dull, dry and unhealthy?

If it is, then chances are you will try just about anything that promises to
help make your skin have that healthy glow we all long for. Having
beautiful healthy skin doesn't have to be that hard. It also doesn't require

over produce oils, which can lead to breakouts and other unwanted side
effects. Cleansing helps eliminate dust and debris from your face by
cleaning the pores and promoting good circulation.

- Use a good moisturizer to protect the skin from dryness. To avoid the
need for two separate products look for a moisturizer with SPF
protection. One of the best times to apply moisturizer is after a bath as it
blocks the moisture of your skin.

- Water is essential for hydrating your skin, so as we discussed in your
last issue always be sure to drink at least eight glasses of water
every day. When you start following this simple tip you will see an
almost immediate improvement in the quality of your skin. Plus drinking
plenty of water is helpful for flushing toxins out of the body and in keeping
the complexion clear and glowing.

- Get plenty of sleep. Lack of sleep reeks havoc on every part of our
body, including your skin. It can lead to premature wrinkles, dry flaky
patches,  breakouts and more.

- A healthy and balanced diet is extremely in important to beautiful,
glowing skin. a healthy diet should consist of fresh fruits and vegetables.

- Exercise regularly. By following a regular exercise program you can
stimulate the blood flow to your entire body which in turn helps your skin
look healthier.

- Mix 1/4 cup of milk, 2 table spoons of sugar, then dip a cotton ball and
apply the milk all over the face and neck. Leave it for 15 to 20 minutes
and then cleanse your face for a beautiful healthy glow.

- Make a paste by mixing a table spoon of Oatmeal with turmeric and
sugar. Then gently massage the paste on your face. Leave it for 2 to 3
minutes and wash it off. This gives your skin a smooth and refreshed
appearance.

These tips are simple and easy to follow. they are also more affordable
than costly salon treatments or over-the-counter products. The road to
beautiful skin doesn't have to be difficult in just need to find a routine that
works best for you and follow it every day.

Natural and very beneficial anti-aging remedies.

Aging is a natural process that affects us all and as we get older most of
us wish we could slow down the effect that age has on our bodies. Even
though it may not seem so our skin is very delicate and extremely
sensitive to sun damage, strong chemicals, products and cosmetics.

That's why it's extremely important to protect it, treat it well and look for
natural ways to help prevent damage and slow down the aging process.

There are many natural remedies and products available that can help
slow down the aging process. These natural remedies are often less
expensive and safer when compared to other more invasive techniques
like cosmetic procedures, surgery or other chemical solutions. Which
makes them a great option when it comes to reducing the effect that time
has on our skin.

Generally, these more gentle treatments are composed of various
natural ingredients like fruits, vegetables, botanical oils, vitamins and
herbal extracts which are essential for restoring moisture, balance and
restoring the elasticity of the skin while maintaining its softness, which in
turn helps you maintain a younger appearance.

These herbal extracts and natural ingredients are inexpensive and can be
found at your local grocery or health food store. They often provide a
much better solution to cleansing and treatment than the harsh chemicals
found in most over-the-counter products.

Now let's go over a few great natural ingredients that you probably
already have in your kitchen that you can use to start fighting the aging
process right away:

1- Coconut hydrates and moisturizes. It can be used on your skin and hair.
For your skin simply grate a raw coconut, squeeze the coconut shreds,
extract milk and apply the milk on the face and let it dry. Rinse it with
warm water

2- Avocado is Mother Nature’s moisturizer, simply mash up an avocado
and apply it to your face as a mask for 15-20 minutes

3- Apply castor oil to soften your skin and eliminate wrinkles.

4- Blemishes and aging spots can be removed by applying a few drops of
lemon juice on the face.

5- Your skin is an organ so remember to drink plenty of water to help flush
away toxins and excess debris.

6- Make a paste of sugar cane juice mixed with turmeric powder which is
quite effective in controlling wrinkles and preventing the skin from aging.

7- The enzyme in pineapple helps remove dead skin and reduces subtle
signs of aging. Mash some pineapple and rub it on your face as a mask.
Allow your face to dry for 10-15 minutes then rinse thoroughly.

8- Certain essential oils act as effective natural remedies for anti aging.
Drops of oils like sandalwood, geranium, rosewood, rose jasmine, neroli,
and frankincense are to be taken and mixed with primrose oil or any other
oil which can be used as base oil.

9- Facial massage is another good natural remedy for anti aging. Blood
circulation is increased by massage which results in tightening of the
muscles and tissues.

10- Green seedless grapes can be taken and cut into half and
then gently crushed on the skin. Leave it for 20 minutes and then rinse it
with warm water.

11- Vitamin E oil or cod liver oil is to be applied daily to the skin. The aging
spots shall fade.

- Remember healthy on the inside reflects on the outside so be sure and
include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet. There are many fruits
and vegetables that you can eat to help prevent aging. Some of them are
carrots, cabbage, spinach, broccoli, strawberries, tomatoes, red
peppers, oranges, grapes, turnips, etc.

By replacing some of the harsh chemicals that we use with more natural
remedies and treatments we can all protect and nourish our bodies as
well as help reduce the signs of aging on our skin.

Beauty Basics Issue

Welcome to your first issue of the Beauty Basics. Inside each
issue you will receive valuable information, tips and techniques that you
can use to enhance your own natural beauty, so you look as good on the
outside as you are on the inside.

We've all heard the old saying "beauty comes from the inside" and There
is a lot of truth to that statement! However, as you probably already know
there are things that we can do to help enhance our natural beauty on the
outside as well. In this first issue we are going to go over a few general
tips that you can use for all over beauty.

- Get plenty of sleep

To help keep yourself looking Young and beautiful be sure that you get an
adequate amount of sleep every night. Never underestimate the effect
that too little sleep can have on your body because it can literally age you.
The average person needs from six to eight hours of sleep a night to
rejuvenate their body, skin, and brain.

- Break out the baking soda

Baking soda can be your best friend when it comes to staying beautiful. It
is one of those products that you should always keep handy. For beauty
purposes you can use it to make your shampoo work better, especially if
you have light colored hair because it will remove any residue left behind
by chlorine or other things. You can also use it to whiten your teeth, take
the pain of sunburn away and the best part is all this can be done for
around the dollar.

- Pamper your feet

To keep your feet looking beautiful, especially during the warmer, dryer
summer months, try applying Vaseline to them daily. Make sure to deeply
massage it into your feet. It will keep your feet smooth and soft. Then go
treat yourself to a pedicure and get a pair of strappy, sassy sandals, and
show of your cute, new pedicure. With this trick you'll have the best
looking feet of the season!

- Reduce the shine

If you have skin that tends to get oily and shiny, you can do one of two
things throughout the day. If you want to be fancy, you can buy a packet of
face-blotting sheets. These smell wonderful and are impregnated with
scented transparent powder. Or you can take a sheet of regular toilet
paper and press, not rub, on the oily areas. Another option is to buy a
face wash that keeps your skin from getting oily and shiny.

- Extend the life of your eye shadow

Make any eye shadow bend to your will. If you are bored with the
shadow choices in your everyday makeup palette, it is definitely time to
spice it up a bit and get creative. Try using a moistened eye shadow
brush to apply your shadow. This will give the eye shadow more
pigmentation in its color and it will be brighter and more interesting than it
was before. You can also use try this trick out as eyeliner!

- Switch to a pencil

Try using an eye pencil instead of liquid eyeliner if you can. Eye pencils
can give a more natural subtle look, while liquid eyeliner may be too
much. If you do like to use liquid liners try using an eye-lining marker. Eye
markers allow you to have more control and you can do thicker, more
dramatic lines, or thinner, subtle lines. If you choose to use liquid
eyeliners or with any kind of eyeliner, try this trick: Pull your eyelid
downward with one hand while applying the liner with your other hand.
Start from the outer corner of your eye and go towards your inner corner.
This will cause less wrinkles on your eyelids.

- Remove makeup properly

It is important that you buy a special make-up remover. Especially if
you use waterproof make-up. Seeing that it is waterproof, it is much
harder to remove than regular make-up and requires more than just
water. If you do not have makeup remover strong enough to take off
waterproof eye makeup try using some Vaseline and just massage it onto
your eye then just wipe it off. I suggest using an old wash cloth to wipe the
makeup off because it will stain. It is important that you remove your
make-up before bed. Especially remove you foundation everyday
because it will clog your pores and cause acne.

- Don't forget the SPF

Apply a lotion or cream containing SPF every day before doing your
daily foundation routine. You can also purchase a tinted moisturizer. This
will leave you with smooth skin and protection from the sun! You have to

live your whole life with the same skin and it is worth the investment to
protect it. You should definitely start off each day with a coat of sunscreen
before you even think of going outside. Your skin will thank you.

- Soften while you shave

If you run out of your favorite shaving cream and you don't want to use
soap to shave your legs because of the drying effect, try using hair
conditioner! Coating your legs with conditioner before shaving will soften
the small hairs and make it easier to shave This will leave your legs
feeling super soft and silky.

While these are all great tips that you can use in your everyday life to help
yourself look and feel more beautiful, the bottom line is, if you feel good
about yourself then you will always be your most beautiful you!

Make sure you look for your next issue soon. We will be talking about
some natural and very beneficial anti-aging remedies.
